The basic idea behind asteroid is to take a simulated plane across free roaming asteroid pieces in space. The asteroids come in all shapes and sizes, and the plane is equipped with ammunition to strike and blast the stone pieces. When struck, the stones do not just disappear but disintegrate into smaller asteroid pieces that in turn need to be destroyed. If any of the asteroids strikes the ship, the ship gets destroyed. The user interface of the game is very simple and it is easy to move and rotate the ship to aim and release ammunition using the space bar. Any number of bullet like ammunition can be released, although with practice one can use just one bullet to strike at the target.

The ship can be kept stationary at the center to make the game easier to play. The real difficulty arises when the ship is made to move across the screen. This makes is difficult to aim and strike, and the chances of getting hit are more.

The game is interesting and at once absorbs the player. The whole idea of aiming and striking is the main interesting aspect of the game. After all everyone likes games that involve aiming and striking at a given object.
